The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) says it has made measurable progress over the past two years through stronger regulation, improved operations, and the use of technology to enhance efficiency.
Fatiu Akiolu, the agency’s managing director, disclosed this during a meeting with senior media executives in Lagos on Wednesday.
He said the agency has achieved steady growth in compliance, staff welfare, and revenue generation despite a challenging economic environment.
“LASAA has achieved significant milestones across various strategic areas following the approval for the placement of innovative iconic Out-of-Home (OOH) and visually striking structures across the city of Lagos,” Akiolu said.
“These installations elevate the city’s landscape and improve advertising standards with better visibility, durability, and digital integration.”
He said the agency’s enforcement efforts had helped reduce illegal signage and improve revenue collection for both LASAA and the State Government.
“Through diligent monitoring and compliance audits, LASAA has minimised infractions and strengthened financial sustainability,” he added.

Akiolu also highlighted the agency’s LASAA School Storm initiative, which recycles flex materials into school bags distributed to public schools.
“By repurposing flex banners collected from enforced boards, LASAA reduces waste and supports learning,” he said. “The programme teaches students about recycling and environmental responsibility.”
The agency said it had introduced a digital house numbering project to provide consistent numbering for properties across Lagos and improve city planning. It had also deployed S-Auto Automation, a system that simplifies the process of obtaining signage and advertisement permits.
To improve safety standards, LASAA created a Health and Safety Department to oversee billboard installation and ensure compliance with engineering requirements, the MD noted.
“This helps reduce risks associated with poorly installed structures and reinforces LASAA’s focus on public safety,” Akiolu explained.
He added that LASAA had started replacing damaged directional signs across Lagos to improve navigation and the appearance of public spaces.
Akiolu said the agency remains committed to effective regulation, sustainable practices, and the modernisation of outdoor advertising in Lagos State.
