Lagos is set to host the inaugural Lagos Gran Fondo “EKO 170”, a 170-kilometre cycling event designed to position the city as a global destination for sports tourism, healthy living, and sustainable mobility.
The event is scheduled for January 11, 2026 and will highlight Lagos’s world-class infrastructure, coastal beauty, and vibrant culture while promoting active lifestyles and environmental sustainability.

Endorsed by the Lagos State Government, EKO 170 aligns with the administration’s THEMES agenda, Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, and Security and Governance.
Over 1,000 cyclists, including elite professionals and amateur enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond, are expected to participate.
“EKO 170 demonstrates Lagos’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global excellence. It underscores our readiness to host world-class experiences that inspire healthier lifestyles and reinforce Lagos’s reputation as Africa’s model megacity,” said Lekan Fatodu, Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC).
The 170km route will start and finish at Eko Atlantic City, passing through Victoria Island, the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, and the Lekki–Epe Expressway to Epe, before looping back for a grand finish.
Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described the event as a major boost for Lagos’s sports tourism and creative economy.
“The Cycling Challenge showcases our city’s coastal beauty, infrastructure, and cultural energy in a way that attracts visitors, empowers communities, and inspires healthier lifestyles. It strengthens our creative economy, boosts small businesses, and celebrates the best of Lagos,” she said.
