The Kano State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a total expenditure of ₦19 billion for the execution of major projects across key sectors of the State’s economy.
The approvals were granted during the 33rd Council meeting held at the weekend at the Council Chamber, Government House in Kano.
Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for information and Internal Affairs, made the dieclosure, while brerifing Journalists. on Sunday, saying the meeting focused on critical governance and development issues with special emphasis on education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, energy, and housing.
The education sector received the highest allocation, with a total of ₦4.93 billion earmarked for the execution of projects under the Ministries of Education and Higher Education. Major approvals include ₦1.49 billion for the settlement of debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers and ₦2.54 billion for the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo (Phase II).

Other key expenditures include ₦400 million for furnishing Northwest University, ₦270.9 million for completion of the E-Library at the College of Education and Preliminary Studies, and ₦308.9 million for outstanding liabilities to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).
These, according to the Council, reaffirm the Administration’s commitment to revamping education infrastructure and ensuring quality learning environments across the state.
In the health sector, the Council approved ₦274.1 million for renovation and upgrading of medical facilities, including Tiga General Hospital and Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital located within the Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu.
The Ministry of Water Resources secured ₦3.33 billion to improve water supply and energy management. This includes ₦915 million for the construction of a new water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai in Rano Local Government Area, ₦1.75 billion for fuel supply to water plants, and ₦670 million for payment of electricity bills.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure received a substantial ₦9.85 billion for roads, flood control, and building renovations across the state. Projects approved include ₦2.63 billion for Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road, ₦388.5 million for flood control at Baban Gwari Roundabout, and ₦2.47 billion for the installation of traffic lights across major intersections in Kano.
Similarly, ₦979.8 million was allocated to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy for solar energy projects, including a 150KW solar backup system at Africa House, Government House, and installations at the Council Affairs Directorate.The Council also approved ₦149.3 million for 2026 Hajj operations under the Office of the Deputy Governor, ₦126 million for procurement of official vehicles, and ₦586.5 million for the construction of weighbridges at Doguwa and five other state entry points.
On policy matters, the Council endorsed the construction of 50 low-cost houses across 36 Local Government Areas and approved the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, aimed at improving energy sufficiency and fostering sustainable industrial growth. The Kano State Electricity Policy was also presented and adopted to guide the state’s energy transition agenda.

The meeting also highlighted recent recognitions and awards conferred on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his exemplary leadership and contributions to good governance. Among these are the Gold Medal of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Zamka Award 2025, and recognition as the 4th Best Performing State on Climate Governance in Nigeria. The governor was also named “Education Ambassador” by Independent Newspaper.
Waiya stated that the approvals underscored the Administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance, adding that the projects will significantly enhance social welfare and stimulate economic development across Kano State.
“This government remains focused on improving the living standards of the good people of Kano through sustained investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and sustainable development,” he affirmed.
