A renowned Nigerian-born real estate magnate and philanthropist, Ambassador Dr. Billy Okoye (GRI), has been appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the United Africa Advisory Board (UAAB) in Prince George’s County, Maryland, United States.
The appointment ceremony, officiated by County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy, marked a significant moment in the county’s evolving relationship with its growing African immigrant community. Braveboy noted that the initiative aligns with her administration’s broader goal of revitalising the county’s economy by fostering inclusion and empowering immigrant populations.
Comprising representatives from 35 African nations, the UAAB is designed to serve as a bridge between the county government and the African diaspora. The board will advise on policies that advance cultural exchange, community engagement, and economic empowerment, while amplifying the collective voice of African immigrants within the county’s civic landscape.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr Okoye expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Executive Braveboy’s vision of “elevating” Prince George’s County through unity and collaboration. He also acknowledged the contributions of philanthropist Dr Jude Onyegbado and Ambassador Dr Joy Davis, whom he described as instrumental in laying the groundwork for the board’s establishment.
He further commended members of the newly inaugurated UAAB executive team, urging them to remain focused on their shared mission of strengthening diaspora solidarity and creating pathways for social and economic progress.
Dr Okoye, founder of Autograph Solar and an energy partner with SunRun Solar, is widely recognised for promoting renewable energy access within immigrant communities. He is also the founder of Sold 100 Real Estate Brokerage, co-founder of BMO General Contractors LLC, and chairman of the Sold-100-Gives-Back Foundation, the charitable arm of S100 Inc. He currently serves as President of the Awkuzu Cultural Association USA.
A devoted family man, Dr Okoye lives in Maryland with his wife, Mrs Matene Mydea Okoye, and their four children, maintaining strong ties to their African heritage.
