Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of petrol in naira, barely a day after suspending the initiative.
In an email to clients on Saturday, the refinery said the decision followed the intervention of the federal government.
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical committee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Sales in Naira commencing immediately,” the email reads.
“You may kindly proceed to place your orders in Naira for both Self collection and Free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country.”
On Friday, Dangote suspended the sale of petrol in naira, citing the depletion of its crude-for-naira allocation.
Nigeria began selling crude oil and refined petroleum products in naira to local refineries on October 1, 2024, in a bid to boost supply, save foreign exchange on imports, and ease pump prices.
On March 10, 2025, recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited halted the naira-for-crude deal until 2030 after forward-selling all its crude oil.
Days later, Dangote refinery announced a temporary halt in naira-denominated fuel sales. But on April 9, the federal government confirmed the continuation of the scheme beyond the first phase, which ended on March 31.
On May 9, Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, said more updates on the naira-for-crude deal would be provided in due course.
