Kano State, in a remarkable achievement for the educational sector, has emerged as the best-performing state in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates.
Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar at NECO, made this known on Wednesday, September 17, during a press conference in Minna, Niger State.
According to the results, Kano State led other states of the federation with 68,159 candidates, 5.02 per cent of the national total, passing with five credits or more, including English and Mathematics. This impressive performance places Kano at the top of the 2025 NECO SSCE performance chart.

This accolade not only highlights the dedication of students and educators in the region but also underscores the effectiveness of recent educational reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing academic excellence.
The remarkable achievement comes on the heels of a series of sweeping education reforms and investments initiated by Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State.
As the state celebrates this significant milestone, it sets a benchmark for others to aspire to, showcasing the potential for growth and improvement within Nigeria’s educational landscape.
Kano’s performance eclipsed that of other states, with Lagos and Oyo trailing behind. Lagos State came second with 67,007 successful candidates, while Oyo placed third with 48,742 candidates.
Sunusi Tofa, spokesperson to the governor, in a statement, expressed his elation at the results, describing the achievement as “a reflection of the tireless work and vision” that has driven Yusuf’s administration’s educational policies.
