Alex Otti, governor of Abia State, has explained that his administration spent N14.43 billion to renovate 61 public schools across the state as of June 2025, as part of his government’s efforts to revamp the education sector.
Otti disclosed this while responding to a query by Eze Chikamnayo, a former Information Commissioner, who alleged that the governor had mismanaged the sum of N54 billion earmarked for the renovation of public schools.
The governor, speaking on TVC News, Umuahia, during his monthly media chat tagged Governor Alexi speaks to Abians, as Otti clarifies that the amount in question was a budget estimate, not actual expenditure, and pointed to the audited financial statements published on the Abia state government website.
The governor emphasised that the former commissioner should not stay in Abuja and spread unfounded lies. He counselled that if Chikamnayo comes to the state, somebody should tell him not to forget to also visit the university, where he claimed otherwise, so he can see what his administration is doing there.
Otti blamed those who sent the ex-commissioner, reiterating that they had sent the wrong person.
“The people who sent him, first of all, have sent a wrong person, a man without credibility, and in any case, they may not have found a man with credibility to come and talk rubbish, because if you send a man who understands numbers, he will tell you no, this one is a budget.
“We have spent about N14.43 billion on 61 schools just within this year to renovate the schools,” he said.
