The African Democratic Congress on Tuesday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of singling out opposition leaders for politically motivated probes, alleging that its Interim National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, is the latest target.
ADC acting National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, claimed the EFCC had “surreptitiously started excavating” files from Mark’s tenure as Senate President — a decade after he left office — as part of a “choreographed media trial” against leaders of the opposition coalition.
The party linked the move to the detention of former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Monday, and the recent invitation of ex-Imo governor, Emeka Ihedioha, calling it proof of “selective justice” and a bid to weaken the opposition before the 2027 elections.
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar echoed the charge, accusing President Bola Tinubu of “objectifying the fight against corruption as a political tool” to coerce opposition figures into the APC. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria also criticised the EFCC, branding it “an obedient lapdog” for the ruling party.

The EFCC rejected the claims as “self-serving” and “diversionary,” with Chairman Ola Olukoyede insisting, “Fraud is fraud… there is no sacred cow.” The Presidency also distanced Tinubu from the probes, saying it does not direct the EFCC’s operations.
Meanwhile, Afenifere disowned reports linking it to the ADC-led coalition, reaffirming its non-partisan stance.
On the same day, during an International Youth Day event in Abuja, David Mark pledged that the ADC would ensure genuine youth and women inclusion in politics, promising that 35% of leadership positions would go to women and key roles to Nigerians under 40.
