Rubrik and Sophos have announced a strategic partnership to deliver an integrated Microsoft 365 (M365) backup and recovery solution aimed at combating ransomware, account compromise, insider threats, and data loss.
Recall that the State of Ransomware report by Sophos, revealed that nearly half of organizations impacted by ransomware chose to pay the ransom to recover their data. However, only 54 percent relied on backups for restoration, highlighting a persistent gap in cyber resilience.
Recent research also shows that 60 percent of M365 tenants have experienced account takeovers, and 81 percent have faced email compromise, underscoring the urgency for robust recovery solutions.

The offering, ‘Sophos M365 Backup and Recovery Powered by Rubrik’, is the first Managed Detection and Response (MDR)-optimized solution of its kind, fully integrated into Sophos Central, the company’s security operations platform.
The new solution is designed to give Sophos’ more than 75,000 MDR and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) mid-market customers a unified platform for prevention, detection, and rapid recovery. It will protect and restore data across SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive, and Teams, ensuring business continuity even after a successful attack.
“We are reshaping what it means to stay operational in a world shaped by constant digital disruption. By combining Sophos’ prevention-first approach with Rubrik’s unwavering recovery capabilities, we empower businesses to withstand attacks and maintain continuity, even under pressure,” said Joe Levy, CEO of Sophos.
The joint offering will integrate Rubrik’s SaaS-based, immutable backup technology directly into Sophos Central, providing secure, air-gapped storage with write-once-read-many (WORM) locks, multifactor authentication, and customer-held encryption keys. It also enables flexible, granular recovery of M365 emails, files, sites, and channels to original or alternate accounts, even after credentials are compromised.
“The reality of today’s threat landscape demands a holistic approach to cyber resilience. With AI-enabled attacks and sophisticated breaches on the rise, organizations need more than just prevention; they need the ability to recover rapidly and reliably. Our partnership with Sophos delivers this directly within a platform security teams already use and trust,” said Bipul Sinha, CEO, chairman, and co-founder of Rubrik.

The Sophos central platform, which consolidates over 350 telemetry sources across endpoint, cloud, network, identity, email, and business applications, will now offer the new Rubrik-powered M365 backup as an add-on solution. Automated discovery of users, delegated admin capabilities, and policy-based protection aim to reduce manual workload for IT and security teams.
