Super Eagles B head coach Eric Chelle has described Tuesday’s 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group D clash against Sudan as a “must-win” as his side looks to recover from their opening-day loss to Senegal in Zanzibar.
Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal and now need all three points to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Chelle stressed the importance of bouncing back immediately.
“I just want to win this game against Sudan; this is my game project. We are under pressure, but we are ambitious and must win tomorrow. This game is the most important for us because a win can bring something good for the team,” he said.
Also, Super Eagles B captain Nduka Harrison Junior echoed his coach’s sentiment, insisting the players are ready to respond.
“The previous game was a setback and not a disaster. We have a point to prove, and we are ready to correct our mistakes.”
Sudan, who were also frustrated by a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Congo, are equally determined. Head coach Kwesi Appiah, however, maintained that his side will show Nigeria respect without fear.
“Nigeria is one of the biggest nations in African football, but we won’t fear them. I don’t believe in rivalry; the best team will win. I don’t see any player as a threat, but the entire team.”
The match kicks off at 6pm local time (same as Nigeria) at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
