President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to have given marching order for completion of the all-important Kaa-Ataba Bridge that links Ogoni areas of Rivers State to the oceanic towns such as Andoni LGA of Rivers State. It is not clear if the presidency took the long rainy season in the region into consideration.
The marching order was however communicated by Abubakar Momoh, Minister for Regional Development in Nigeria, who arrived Port Harcourt Thursday, August 7, 2025, and went straight to Kaa-Ataba zone of the state.
He inspected the project and urged contractors handling the project to ensure they met deadline set for the project.
The Kaa-Ataba Bridge forms a major socio-economic artery between the two ethnic nationalities. It was awarded twice in the past but a third award by the NDDC is said to be in collaboration with the NLNG and is now seen to be progressing well. Funding is said to be guaranteed from the President who granted a N1trn fund to support the NDDC’s 2025 budget for the purpose of completing certain legacy (or abandoned) projects.

Momoh, who was accompanied on the visit by Mary Ogbe, the permanent Secretary in his ministry, and Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, said the project is expected to be completed and ready for commissioning by the end of the year.
He said President Bola Tinubu is committed to the development of Ogoni, which commitment is further amplified by the establishment of the University of Environment in Tai, Ogoni.
Momoh expressed satisfaction with work done so far on the project, while emphasizing the socioeconomic benefits of the bridge to the Andoni and Ogoni communities.
He stressed that the project, initially embarked on by the NDDC in 2009, will be completed before the end of President Tinubu’s third year in office.
Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the NDDC, said the Commission is committed to the project, and has made adequate financial provision for the project to be delivered on time.
He re-emphasized the determination to ensure that the Kaa-Ataba Bridge is delivered by the end of 2025.
The minister said the President gave them a marching order to complete abandoned projects, especially key ones.
