Shalom Ijeoma Lloyd MBE is an award winning entrepreneur, lover of the role of nature and science in our lives. A leader, speaker and pharmaceutical professional, she also launched her own skincare company called Naturally Tribal Skincare Ltd. Their products are now under their brand: Naturally Tiwa Skincare.
Her search for a consistent supply of pure, sustainable raw materials of the highest quality led her back to Nigeria where they now ethically source their raw materials from the Kingdom of Essan, Niger State and JE Oils in Abuja. They collaborate and provide infrastructure and trade that goes way beyond their business, a portal through which the rich cultural identity of Nigeria can be accessed by the world through their products.
Ijeoma is passionate about all things Africa. From championing putting Africa at the forefront of clinical research, to sourcing ingredients in an ethical and sustainable manner, to empowering and supporting African women in effectively using their skills, expertise and resources, Ijeoma’s passion for Africa is commendable.
On how and why she founded Naturally Tiwa Skincare, her twin boy, Joshua, was covered in eczema from birth and she spent months combining lotions, creams, emollients, teas – you name it – to stop his ‘scratch until drawing blood’ dilemma, as she described it. So, she tapped into her African heritage, researching recipes that families in Africa have used for generations for skincare. She started to mix raw, pure shea butter and coconut oil sent to her from Nigeria. Using these natural ingredients, it only took three days for Joshua’s skin to become what it should have been at birth – baby soft and beautiful. “Our company Naturally Tribal Skincare Ltd was born out of this personal experience and knowledge, and our brand is now known as Naturally Tiwa Skincare.” She stated.
Shalom is also co-founder/ chief strategy officer at eMQT. eMQT is the bridge between the pharmaceutical industry and Africa, including access to patients and emerging markets.
In addition, Ijeoma Lloyd is a director at Jean Edwards Oils. Inspired by change and innovation, JE Oils is a manufacturer of agriculturally derived oils, using state-of-the-art facilities and staff to deliver high quality products, locally and globally, in an ethical, sustainable, accessible and secure manner.
According to Shalom, the traditional remedies we use have worked effectively for thousands of years in Africa using raw, natural ingredients. These remedies are now under threat and could potentially be lost if we do not pass the ancestry baton to future generations. “Our mission at Naturally Tribal is to bring back these valuable remedies to benefit families on both sides of the world.” Shalom said.
