Low digital literacy has been attributed as the reason a total of 4,169 out of the 12,874 teachers who sat the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) failed.
Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, director of certification and licensing at TRCN disclosed this on Thursday while announcing the release of the results of the nationwide examination.
Ezeahurukwe said that the low digital literacy of some teachers, which, according to her which adversely affected their performance, was part of the challenges encountered during the examination.
The examination was conducted between May 15 and 17, had 13,782 candidates registered, but only 12,874, representing 93.4 per cent, participated, while 908 candidates, or 6.6 per cent, were absent.
“Of those who took the test, 8,705 candidates, or 67.62 percent, passed, while 4,169, representing 32.38 percent, failed the examination,” Ezeahurukwe explained.
A breakdown of the performance shows that Lagos State is ahead of others with an impressive pass rate of 80 percent, while Edo State is second on the log with 73.3 percent, Niger State follows with 69.2 percent, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is fourth with 68.3 percent.
However, Ronke Soyombo, the new registrar at TRCN, revealed that the council has put in place initiatives to boost digital skills among educators.
According to the plans, these initiatives include the introduction of online digital literacy training, curriculum guides, and access to past questions.
Hence, TRCN encouraged all teachers to check their results online via www.fron.gov.ng or www.trcnigeria.ng, or visit any of the council’s state or liaison office.
The successful candidates are counseled to start processing their certificates and licences, because the validity of the examination result is one year from the date of publication.
Moreover, Ezeahurukwe instructed candidates who did not pass to enhance their digital and pedagogical competencies and prepare for the next batch of the examination scheduled for November.
