Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre has successfully equipped 20 women with disabilities with crucial digital skills, enhancing their employability and empowering them to establish thriving businesses. The training program was hosted at AccessTech’s Assistive Technology Experience Centre in Lagos State.
The initiative was made possible by a grant from Giving Joy, enabling Accesstech to deliver a comprehensive curriculum focused on in-demand digital tools and strategies.
In a world where access to digital tools is essential for education, employment, and entrepreneurship, individuals with disabilities are often left behind due to systemic barriers and lack of tailored support.
Accesstech bridges this gap by equipping them with relevant skills, fostering independence, and creating pathways to economic empowerment and societal inclusion.Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre empowers blind and partially sighted individuals through assistive technology, capacity building, and digital literacy training. The organisation is committed to fostering a society where people with disabilities have equal opportunities to thrive.
“Our vision is to build a world where no one is left behind,” stated Emmanuella Akinola, Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre. “We are committed to building the capacity of talented people with disabilities through assistive technology. Since our inception in 2023, our focus has been on providing digital skills training for blind persons. We are excited to expand our reach to include individuals with low vision, such as people with albinism, and this program represents a significant step in that direction.”
According to one of the program participants, Recheal Anuoluwapo “as a lady with Albinism, I find it difficult to get a digital skills training that will be inclusive of me due to my low vision. With the training I received at AccessTech Innovation, I am confident in my capacity to complete e distance learning program at the University of Lagos.
This program underscores Accesstech Innovation’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and creating pathways for women with disabilities to achieve economic independence and success in the digital age.
