In a purposeful virtual interview held today September, 1 2022, Nigerian finance and risk expert Anuoluwapo Rogers shared thoughtful perspectives on the changing architecture of financial risk management across Africa. With years of hands-on experience across top institutions, Rogers highlighted the continent’s growing need for robust credit frameworks, stronger risk governance, and data-driven financial systems.
Rogers had built a track record that earned him recognition within West Africa’s financial services space. During his time at Ernst & Young (EY), he contributed to risk advisory and financial services consulting for major institutions across the region. His work involved supporting the development and validation of IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss models and reviewing risk structures for leading financial organizations, efforts that supported improved credit strategies and reduced overall exposure for clients.
Before joining EY, Rogers made measurable impact at Access Bank, where he served as a Risk Analyst. There, he evaluated credit applications, assessed financial projections, and monitored loan performance for clients across multiple African markets. His involvement in analysing a sizeable credit portfolio helped strengthen the bank’s risk oversight and contributed to reducing the rate of non-performing loans within the institution’s lending activities.
His earlier career included key contributions at Petrolog Group, where he supported financial reporting for high-revenue projects, and Rosabon Financial Services, where he developed a credit behaviour model that enhanced borrower assessment processes and improved loan quality. His work at the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service further showcased his commitment to strengthening public-sector financial systems through tax education and compliance initiatives.
His contributions continue to inspire a rising generation determined to redefine Africa’s financial future.
