Thousands of card readers were damaged as fire guts a container housing Smart Card Readers at the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akure, Thursday night, the electoral body tweeted.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner who spoke at the scene of the incident said the container where card readers were stored was destroyed.

“The National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye, who is in Ondo State in connection with preparations for the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for 10th October 2020, rushed to the office at about 8 pm,” INEC added.
Over 5000 card readers have been destroyed in the inferno. INEC National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye, assured that an investigation would be carried out to unravel the cause of the fire.
Governorship election in Ondo state had been scheduled for October 10, 2020.
