The PDP had on Thursday announced Melaye as the head of the governorship campaign council in the state, ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
Melaye however, on Friday, announced his decision to turn down the appointment which was disclosed on his tweeter handle at dino_melaye.
“Let me state categorically that I have turned down the position of Director-General of the PDP Kogi State Governorship Campaign Council. I wish PDP all the best. When truth is a casualty, there is chaos,” Melaye tweeted.
Meanwhile, former gubernatorial aspirants in the recently held Kogi PDP governorship primary, under the auspices of Kogi PDP 2019G-12, have thrown their unanimous support behind Musa Wada, who emerged the flag bearer of the party.
The aspirants are Idris Wada, Emmanuel Omejibe, Salifu Atawodi, Princes Grace Iyeh Adejoh, Joseph Ameh Erico, and Kabiru Haruna. Others are Adebayo Adobayin Averehi, Aminu Abubakar Sulaiman, Victor Alewo Adoji and Mohammed Adah Shaibu Tettes respectively.
However, Melaye and Ibrahim Idris’s names were conspicuously missing on the list of the former aspirants who stormed the PDP National Secretariat at the Wadata Plaza to declare their support for Wada.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, hinted during their visit that Dino and the other aspirant were not present because of travel and ill health.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Shaibu Tettes explained that their decision to support Wada was hinged on the urgent need for intra-party cohesion and unity of purpose to ensure that PDP emerged victorious in the forthcoming governorship poll.
