Real Madrid have announced the re-appointment of former coach Zinedine Zidane as new coach 10 months after he left the club.
The 46-year old Frenchman led the Real Madrid side to victory in the Uefa Champions League in the last three seasons, will replace embattled Argentine Santiago Solari, who oversaw the team’s surprise exit in the Champions League to Dutch-based AFC Ajax NV on Tuesday, the club said in a statement.
Zidane will begin immediately to finish off the current season and remain as coach for the next three through June 30, 2022, the club said.
His priority is to rescue and revitalise a struggling squad that has been on a downward spiral ever since his departure on May 31 2018.
After being presented as the new coach at 20:00 CET on Monday evening, Zidane will take charge of his first training session on Tuesday morning.
He will take over for the rest of the campaign and then be in charge for another three seasons.Zidane was the standout favourite for Florentino Perez and the Real Madrid president was willing to do whatever it took to get him back on side.
Real Madrid is currently 12 points behind the Catalonia-based club in Spain’s top domestic division, La Liga.
