Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC, dedicated mainly to deliberations on issues around the Minimum wage Bill.
President Muhamamdu Buhari had given indications recently that the Bill will be sent to the National Assembly on the 23rd of January, this year.
The crucial meeting is attracting top government officials, including top officers of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC, led by its Chairman, Richard Egbule.
A Cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhamamdu Buhari was called to fine tune the Bill, but government shelved making its conclusion public until the outcome of today’s NEC meeting
Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, disclosed after the meeting that the decision of the Cabinet will be forwarded to NEC to ensure harmony.
This followed insistence by the Governors that they will not be able to pay the N30,000 Minimum Wage demanded by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
Today’s NEC meeting will be a make or mare as the outcome will determine wether Labour will go ahead with its proposed nationwide industrial action ahead of the 2019 general elections
