The Senate has summoned the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over alleged abandonment of the Eastern Railway Line.
Specifically, the upper legislative chamber asked the Minister to appear before the Senate Committee on Land Transport over alleged move by the Federal Government to abandon work on the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri Eastern Railway projects.
This followed adoption of a motion moved by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu at Wednesday plenary.

The Deputy Senate President insisted that the present administration seems to be foot dragging on the Eastern Railway Project after it secured the approval from the Parliament for the loans for the project.
In his contribution, James Manager (PDP, Delta State) expressed concern over the manner in which the Federal Government is handling the project.
However, Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, argued that the Federal Government has not abandoned the railway line, adding that the contractor has handed the project to a subsidiary.
