Writing a thorough and well extensive research is really a herculean task especially when you are writing on a topic that has no source. It involves a whole of commitment, dedication, and much more. Most my predecessors had emphasised much it as if it was a task that could take one’s life. Though it never bothered me or make me think twice because I always say to myself: “If this fellow could write his project successfully then I will do same.” Even the people that do not know the rudiments of project writing will always come to instigate fears on other students that are yet to write theirs.
Be that as it may, project writing should be an individualistic assignment and not a group one. Many students use this medium to shy away from taking an active part in it, especially the indolent ones. This is really because of the overpopulated nature of some departments or faculties. In some occasions, between six to eight students constitute a group, and there is no clear-cut criterion to emerging as the group leader. The members of a group appoint their group leaders, or better still the lecturer appoints the group leaders.
Sadly, I found myself in a group with seven girls and I felt like someone tackling seven different problems from seven angles. I never possessed the virtues to flow with them, on the other hand, some boys who were in the same shoes with me found it gratifying. They were ready to contribute their own quota financially; always curious about being present whenever we are to submit any chapter. They shy away from the leg work which constitutes visiting the area of study or research, conducting oral interview amongst others. Furthermore, writing the project itself after several cancellations by our supervisor was really a strenuous exercise for me at the time.
Our project supervisor, a strict disciplinarian who was ready at all times to bring out the best in us, never took it lightly with us. She could easily cancel fifteen pages of write up when she discovers an error, and you are expected to recopy everything from the beginning to the end. She had bombarded me with slaps in the presence of my group members the day I presented the literature review. I never viewed it as an embarrassment in any way; rather I urged myself to buckle up so as to meet up with her standards. It was really tough, I thought of how to give intelligent answers to her ambiguous questions. Being able to withstand the pressures of my group members whenever any of them is not present during submission of our write-up also compounded the stress I underwent.
